Rules for entering data into the Virginia District's GWSI

In order that the data stored in GWSI are standardized, the following coding rules must be followed.

   1 Always use CAPITAL (UPPERCASE) letters.
   2 Use Appendix 1 for the following components.

   3 Use Appendix 2 for the following component.

   4 Use Appendix 3 for the following component.

   5 Use Appendix 4 for the following component.

   6 Use Appendix 5 for the following components.

C190 Other identifier

 

 

   7 Use Appendix 6 for the following components.

   8 Use Appendix 7 for the following components.

C311 Sequence number for RMKS subrecord of MISC file

 

   9 Use project account number for the following component.

10 Enter the District Code (C006) as follows.

Example, enter  51 rather than 051

 

11 Enter the Name of location map (C014) as follows:

Name of location map
Example, Gainesville, VA quadrangle is coded GAINESVILLE

 

12 Enter the Date site established/inventoried (C711) with the date of GWSI was updated
13 If the information does not fit in the allotted space for a particular component, use the list of common abbreviations.
