This hydrologic hazards map displays sites where the USGS is currently collecting and reporting water data in near real-time. The sites include 1) long-term streamgages (i.e., those with at least 30 years of observations), which are indicated by a colored square with the color representing percentile classes for this day of the year; 2) shorter-term streamgages (those with less than 30 years of observations) or those only reporting water level and not streamflow, which are indicated by a gray square; 3) special storm surge sensors that have been deployed in anticipation of a specific flood or storm surge event (red triangle); 4) ground water wells (black triangle); 5) water quality sensors (red circle); combined surface water quality and streamflow sites (square inside red circle); and ground water quality site (black triangle inside red circle). This webpage is designed to highlight and provide access to current water quantity and quality conditions in areas undergoing, or at risk of undergoing severe environmental conditions (e.g., hurricanes, extratropical storms, etc.), although it can also be used to access water data in all other areas of the conterminous United States.

The data used to produce this map are provisional and have not been reviewed or edited. They may be subject to significant change. Moreover, the storm events and related flood conditions affecting the monitoring stations appearing on the map may be severe enough to damage or destroy equipment, or to disrupt the transmission of data from the station to USGS computer systems. As a result, some of the information appearing on the map may not reflect conditions occurring at the present time.
