- Who is funding the
investigation?
The investigation is a cooperative effort between
the U.S. Geological Survey-Water Resources Division and the
County.
- What is the objective
of the investigation?
The objective of this study is to better
characterize the carbonate aquifer system in the Northern
Shenandoah Valley and provide relevant hydrogeologic information
that can be used to guide the development and management of this
important water resource.
- Does the investigation
include all of Frederick County?
No.
The area of investigation only encompasses the carbonate
formations in the County, which is bounded on the east by the
Martinsburg Formation (approximately the location of Interstate
81), and on the west by Little North Mountain.
- When will the
investigation be completed?
The
investigation will be completed in three and one-half years and
began in October 2000. Continued monitoring and further
investigation of specific water management issues will likely be
carried out thereafter.
