In recent years, Loudoun County has recognized the need for an improved understanding of its water resources. In June 2001, the County entered into a cooperative agreement with the USGS to operate a stream gaging network in the County. The network provides near-real time stage (water-level) and discharge (water quantity) information from 8 sites to County officials and the public via the internet. The USGS and DEQ also operate 2 stream-flow stations and 2 ground-water observation wells in Loudoun County.
